The NFL season opens tomorrow night — Seahawks vs. Patriots. Before we get there, the league dropped some significant business news over the weekend.

Roger Goodell signed a 4-year contract extension through March 2031. We don't know the salary — the NFL stopped disclosing it years ago. His last reported number was $63.9 million annually. Whatever this deal is worth, it's probably more than that.

Here's what I find most interesting: his contract expires the same month as the current CBA. The owners are keeping their commissioner locked in for the next labor negotiation. That's not an accident.

The metrics tell you why they want him there. $10 billion in annual media rights. Franchise values that have gone from $2 billion for the Panthers in 2018 to $9.6 billion for the Seahawks this year. A team-friendly CBA still in place for five more years. The NFL has never been stronger. And the next media deal — when these contracts come up for renewal — is going to be even bigger.

Today's Daily Dose is my full take on what Goodell's extension means and where the NFL goes from here.
