Welcome to the Sunday 7…
started a new semester of Sports Law and Business this week. The syllabus writes itself.
The eligibility chaos I've been living through as an NIL consultant reached a new level. The SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC all announced bans on players who signed professional contracts returning to college competition — with real penalties attached. Then a Dallas court issued a temporary restraining order against the SEC from enforcing its own ban. Less than 48 hours after it was announced.
This is where college sports is right now.
The NFL killed the Pro Bowl at a one-day owners meeting this week. I'll tell you what finally pushed them over the edge — and what "honoring 88 Pro Bowlers before the Super Bowl" actually means contractually.
Deshaun Watson is the Browns' starter. I know a lot of people are upset. I'm going to explain one more time why it was the obvious decision — and what the contract history around it actually tells you.
LIV Golf is on life support. The Saudi PIF pulled funding. Events got canceled. A $250 million investor is in discussions but not finalized. And there's still no clear path for players like Rahm and DeChambeau.
And this week we lost Dolly Parton. 80 years old. One of the great ones. Her quote at the bottom of this week's newsletter is as good as any she ever gave.
The full breakdown on all of it is in this week's Sunday Seven — and tonight is the last night to get there for $19.97 for the full year. Sale ends at midnight. → Get it for 19.97/year (You must use this link)
