I looked into Brendan Sorsby in one of my consulting roles. Talked to his agent. The number was way above where we wanted to go. When I asked about a buyout clause, the agent got evasive. Now I know why.
Sorsby just entered rehab for gambling addiction. He's under NCAA investigation for placing bets while he was at Indiana. Cincinnati is suing him for a $1 million buyout he never paid. And the $5 million NIL deal he signed with Texas Tech? Every dollar of it is at risk if the NCAA suspends him. I write these contracts. I know what the breach clauses say.
In today's Daily Dose, I break down what this means for Sorsby, what it means for the schools, and why I think we're looking at the beginning of an epidemic.
