Two big Browns stories today — and one of them might be the most surreal thing I've seen in sports in years.
Dae'Quan Wright is a tight end who was in training camp with the Cleveland Browns. He was a named plaintiff in a Louisiana state court lawsuit granting fifth-year eligibility. He asked the Browns to release him. They did. And if he clears waivers, he will become what is believed to be the first player in history to sign an NFL contract and return to play college football — joining LSU.
He is, in essence, using the transfer portal to go from the Cleveland Browns to the LSU Tigers.
The other Browns story: they named Deshaun Watson their starting quarterback for Week 1. Five years, $230 million, 19 games started. A lot of people are upset. I'm going to tell you why I actually understand it.
