The NBA had a big week — Draft, a blockbuster trade, and a college coach taking over one of its teams. Meanwhile the Sorsby saga hit another milestone. My takes are below.
On the Giannis trade: everyone is praising the Heat. I'm not. Milwaukee got shooting, size, two draft picks including last year's top pick and this year's pick at 13, and multiple future picks. Miami gave all of that for a 31-year-old who has missed significant time in recent years — especially in the playoffs. I'll show you why I like this for the Bucks.
On Sorsby: the NFL said no to the supplemental draft. Jeffrey Kessler is threatening to sue. I have a thought on that nobody else is saying — this might be the NFL's opening offer, not their final answer.
And I'm sharing a book excerpt this week about my first boss, David Falk. He was the most relentless negotiator I've ever been around. During a contract negotiation with the San Antonio Spurs, he looked across the table and told them he couldn't promise Michael Jordan wouldn't be sick when the Bulls came to town. I was floored. The Spurs moved. I'll tell you the rest inside.
