James Franklin lands new job just 36 days after firing
From Penn State to Virginia Tech — plus why his $49M “buyout” wasn’t a buyout at all.
Hey guys, welcome to the Daily Dose. It is Tuesday, November 18th, 2025. This is your daily dose for today.
I want to talk about college football. We've had such a year of fired coaches. Every week seems like another powerful conference college football coach has been fired. And now we have one that's on the rebound with a new job. And that would be James Franklin. Fired from Penn State — and 36 days from that firing, October 12th, is a new position. He's going to be head coach at Virginia Tech, moving from the Big Ten to the ACC, Blacksburg, Virginia. I was just there a few weeks ago, seeing Louisville beat them at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia. So it's a big move in college football. It's the first rebound job we've seen.
