Welcome to the Sunday 7…

Back from Paris after a wonderful trip that included a couple days seeing the French Open tennis tournament, a joy as a tennis player and fan, a tournament filled with upsets galore, despite the heat wave that was going on.  It was quite a scene, what my son called a “Coachella for tennis.”

I look behind a couple of blockbuster trades in the NFL as the calendar turned to June, as well as a storied NFL franchise moving ahead to play in another state (for now). Major League Baseball fired its opening salvo in collective bargaining, and Steph Curry is moving to China (for his shoe deal).

Also, my book is being shipped to warehouse this week. Please pre-order if you haven’t yet: https://us.amazon.com/Smarter-About-Sports-Navigating-Athletes/dp/1637279825

Settle in and learn…

Back from Paris — specifically the French Open, which my son accurately described as "Coachella for tennis." Great matches, a heat wave, and a bucket list check. More on that inside.

But while I was abroad, the NFL didn't wait. Two blockbuster trades landed in the first days of June. Myles Garrett goes to the Rams. AJ Brown goes to the Patriots. I've looked at both deals closely, and I think one team clearly won each trade — and it may not be who you think. I'm also watching the Bears' move toward a $5 billion domed stadium in Hammond, Indiana with skepticism. I've seen this playbook before.

Meanwhile, Baseball fired the first shot in what will be a brutal CBA fight: a proposed salary cap at $245 million. And Steph Curry just signed a 10-year, $400 million deal — with a Chinese brand. The globalization of the NBA is real, and this is proof.

This week's Sunday 7:

  1. The Myles Garrett trade — and why I think the Browns won it

  2. The AJ Brown deal — and what "we grew apart" really tells you

  3. The Bears, Indiana, and a leverage play I've seen before

  4. Baseball's Cap offer, the $500M union claim, and what comes next

  5. Steph Curry, Li-Ning, and the third-biggest endorsement deal in NBA history

  6. Tweet of the Week

  7. Quote that I Wish I Said

Settle in.

Quick note: the book ships to warehouse this week. If you haven't pre-ordered yet — please do. It means everything at this stage: Pre-order here
