Big week. Let's get into it.
The Minnesota Vikings just named Kyler Murray their starting quarterback for 2026. He's making $1.3 million from the Vikings. He's making $35.5 million from the Arizona Cardinals. That's the contract structure I love to break down — and it tells you everything about how NFL teams exploit the offset language in guaranteed deals to get elite talent for next to nothing.
The Lakers were sold again. Ten months after Mark Walter bought a controlling stake for $10 billion, Bob Iger and Josh Kushner bought it for $12.5 billion. That's a $2.5 billion profit in less than a year — the fastest flip of a sports franchise I've ever seen. I have thoughts on what's really driving this, including the federal investigation that's been underway into Walter's other business interests.
Jayden Daniels is upset with LSU over his jersey number. It's a losing argument and a bad look — even if there may be something technically to it. I'll explain the NIL contract mechanics, what LSU is likely allowed to do, and why this almost certainly isn't Daniels himself pushing this.
Buffalo's new $2.2 billion stadium had its soft launch and the reviews were not kind. And college sports is somehow back in full chaos — a new eligibility rule, a wave of lawsuits, and the PCSA failed to get a vote before Congressional recess.
One month in on the book, and this one made my week:
“I am usually a strictly Fiction reader - I was given this as a Father's day gift and once started I could not put it down- I have lived in the Philly area my entire life - and also a Villanova grad- and Andrews stories just hit home… this was the perfect beach book and a great read start to finish as Andrew shares his talent for writing…“- Brian Smith
