The Lakers story keeps getting more complicated.

Last week: Mark Walter flips the team to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner for $12.5 billion. Five of the six Buss siblings — Jim, Johnny, Janie, Joey, and Jesse — invoke their tag-along rights and vote to sell the family's remaining 17.8% stake at the same valuation.

Then Jeanie Buss's lawyer sent a letter. It cited a 2017 court order requiring her approval before any sale of the family's trust can be executed. She says the vote is void. And here's what makes this more than just family drama: under NBA rules, you need to own at least 15% of a team to serve as governor. If that 17.8% stake goes to Iger and Kushner, Jeanie loses her governorship.

I've been around NFL ownership for years. Family disputes over franchise control happen more than anyone knows — they're usually kept very quiet. This one is fully out in the open. And it's going to end up in court.
