Monday night the Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act 77-22. I've been watching college sports legislation for over a decade. Dozens of bills have been introduced. None made it to the Senate floor. This one did — and passed with enormous bipartisan support.
I'm an NIL consultant negotiating contracts in the middle of the Wild West every day. I want to be straight about what this bill actually does — because a lot of what I'm hearing is wrong.
The cap doesn't cut player pay. It raises it — from $21 million per school to nearly $50 million. The agent fee cap protects players from the 10, 15, even 20% fees I see being charged right now. The one-time transfer rule creates stability without eliminating mobility. And the limited antitrust exemption is the most important piece nobody's talking about.
